Overview: The Malaysian Countryside combines a slower pace of life, trying to keep close to Nature and depending mainly on Agriculture and Cottage Industries - from Tribal Leftovers to Fruit Orchards.
THE MAH (PEOPLE) MERI (FOREST) is an indigenous subgroup of Senoi Aborigines 2,000 remaining whowere sea gypsies depending mainly on fishing and agriculture.They are soft spoken people who laugh even in adversityand excel in wood carvings depicting rich mythological meanings with spiritual connections. Their ancestors come in their dreams and instruct them the shape of the figurines to be carved. They are listed under UNESCO.
ITINERARY: (Daily departures on shared basis)
09:00 After breakfast depart for the countryside.
10:00 On arrival a Mah Meri Guide will take us on a walkabout tour of the village. He will belt out facts and fancies of his people and the Rumah Moyang (Ancestral Temple), the most fascinating part of the tour. Every year in March they have a Day of Ancestral Worship and food and drinks are placed at the altar in return of good health, good harvest and protection from evil. There is much merriment of dancing and worship. The tour moves on for a demonstration of wood carving and origami by the folks of the village.
