The Kuang Si trekking trail leads you into the Lao hinterland and countryside while passing some fields and vegetable gardens before reaching the forested mountains with quite wild sceneries and some steeper climbs. After a stretch of forest hiking we will explore an interesting cave along the way. During the Second Indochina War people say it helped the local people as a bomb shelter!
In the early afternoon we then arrive at the crystal clear water of just one of the springs that feed the famous Kuang Si waterfall. The last short walk brings us down the steep waterfall where we have time for a relaxing swim.Kuang Si waterfall - trekking - Luang Prabang
While in the Kuang Si waterfall sanctuary, you can see protected bears in the forest. There is great information about the project and the background of Asian bear protection programs. You are welcome to support the project with a donation or even just by buying a real "Free The Bears" T-Shirt. The NGO helps to set up proper care and areas to keep the animals in a well cared surrounding.
You are invited to enjoy the natural swimming pools at the Kuang Si sanctuary and some free time allows you to go and explore the jungles surrounding the great falls. In the afternoon we return to Luang Prabang with a car.
