This is one of those trip you talk about for days on end, because it is such a unique opportunity. Perhaps so unique that it can be called a once in a lifetime opportunity. So make haste and grab this offer with both hands, as you venture into the lands of Benang Stokel, Lombok.
Your early morning tour begins at 5am, where your guide shall pick you up from your hotel in Senggigi. You will embark on a 1.5 hour journey to a village in Benang Stokel, just south of Mount Rinjani. Upon your arrival at the base camp, you shall stop for some yummy banana pancakes breakfast with traditional Lombok coffee and tea.
Following breakfast, those individuals who have no experience in hunting shall undergo a short shooting-practice at the base camp. Once you've gotten enough confidence in shooting, you will make your way to the jungle. But before getting down to hunting, your guide shall lead you to banana and orange plantation accessible via a Landrover. By the way, if there are birds at either plantation, your hunting starts from there, else you will make your way to the jungles.
Ride on the Landrover for a distance, then get off the vehicle and make your way on foot - because you wouldn't want your catch to run away by any loud noises! If you're in luck, you'll get to catch birds, deer and wild chicken, which shall be cooked for your meals. If the animals decide to stay in hiding (boo) then you'll enjoy a noodle soup lunch.
Break for lunch, then get right back on foot to continue hunting till 4.30pm. That's the time the sun sets, so your guide will take you back to the base camp, just in time for dinner. Feast on local delights like sayur bening, sambal and vegetable soup, along with barbecued catch of the day.
But alas! your hunting trip extends slightly longer as you make your way to rice fields to catch eels. Here you shall learn the traditional methods used by Lombok people (Suku Sasak), then return to base camp by 10pm.
Rise and shine to nature's beauty as you head to Benang Klambu and Benang Stokel to bathe in the waterfalls. That place offers scenic panoramic views of unobstructed beauty. Clean up and then you're headed to rice fields to see how till-date it is being ploughed by cows, despite the invasion of technology. At the rice fields you can marvel at the Mount Rinjani and rice terraces on its flanks. Next up, is the durian plantation where you can even eat the fruit - if you get past the smell!
Break for lunch at the base camp, then make your way to Benang Stokel village, a small village with about 500 occupants. On this tour, you will get to stop at several local people's homes to observe how they live. You'll finally stop at local house to enjoy a traditional Lombok coffee, candy and snacks.
You'll finally end your trip after breakfast and a short sightseeing adventure on the way to your hotel in Senggigi or the airport.
Pick up from Mataram and Senggigi at 5am, and Kuta 4.30am.
