Looking for things to do in Bali? Do you have a passion for getting crafty and learning something new? This half-day jewelry making tour is something special you can enjoy by yourself or with a friend, take your personal piece of jewelry home at the end of the day and experience some of Bali’s traditional culture, in the culture capital of Ubud.

Silver jewelry making, like most old crafts in Bali, is a family affair.
Meet Bali tour guide/Jewelry maker Gusti Ayu will be your host for the day, she was taught to make silver jewelry by her father and her older brother. From the early age of 9 she was allowed to polish the silver pieces her family was creating for sale in America and Australia.

In Bali, children helping their families after school develop the jeweler’s practiced eye and steady hand over time. When you watch Ayu handle the tools and manipulate the silver that will become your personalized silver jewelry you’ll appreciate the years of patient learning that silver jewelry making entails.

It takes a half-day for Ayu to introduce you to this special realm of art making. Bring your jewelry ideas to Ayu and she will help you to craft your idea into a wearable piece of silver jewelry. In a few short hours one can sample the jeweler’s craft as both you and Ayu work together to work new silver into a polished art piece. It’s fun; it’s a challenge and a terrific way to spend your leisure time in Bali.

You will receive a certificate at the end of your day after enjoying some traditional Balinese cake with your class peers and Ayu following your day of learning the Jewelry making class. Meet some Locals along the way while enjoying Bali’s beautiful surroundings. This is a must do in Bali for anyone crafty looking to experience some culture and learn something new whilst doing it!

Great experience. We’re encouraged to the most of the work for ourselves so I can really say that I made the earrings!

The class was interesting and fairly hands-on, though it left the difficult tasks (like soldering) to the experts—which is probably for the best. The welcome coffee and fried pineapple/banana were very nice. And the location is incredibly beautiful and calming.

This silvermaking class was much less of a class and much more of the instructor taking over when I hesitated. I would've preferred he show me how and enabled me to do it myself, rather than just doing it himself. I ended up only designing my piece, though my more artistic friend was able to work the silver himself without too much "help". This was also more challenging because they didn't use any sort of glue to keep the pieces down while you were cutting and bending delicate parts. It was nigh on impossible for me to measure the pieces correctly when they were all moving around. This is what led to the instructor's "help".
