Siem Reap is a popular tourist destination for its proximity to age-old Angkor temples, that's loved by locals and tourists alike. Begin your day early, as pick-up is slated between 8-8.45am at your hotel, to beat the tourist crowd.
Your first destination is the Angkor Wat temple, esteemed to be the largest religious monument in the world. Several tourists come here to bask in its impressive structure and architectural makeup. Its popularity and stature is what marks it as a symbol of Cambodia as it appears on the national flag.
Moving on to your next stop, you'll reach the Bayon. This is another magnificent structure comprising of 54 decorated towers and 200 enigmatic smiling faces, Phimeanakas, Baphoun, Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King.
Make haste as you're yet to see the South Gate of Angkor Thom City. This gate is crowned with four large faces facing in the cardinal directions, and is where gods and demons line the road leading to the gate struggling in a cosmic tug-of-war.
Stop for a Khmer style lunch at what was once reserved for the King and his consorts, near Sras Srang, the Royal Pool of Ablutions. Your next stop: The sets of Tomb Raider the movie, Ta Prohm. What was once a temple, is now left to the devices of its surrounding jungle. And though your tour ends here, you'll get the chance to climb Angkor complex's oldest building.
